CBB = Captive Bred/Born
           Captive bred/born animals are born or hatched as a result of it's parents successfully breeding in captivity. Contrary to the belief of some individuals captive born animals are produced by breeders all over the world and are not exclusive to U.S. breeders. In other words not all imported animals are wild caught.
CB = Captive Born
          Captive born animals are born or hatched in captivity as a result of it's mother having bred in the wild prior to her capture. Captive born animals can also be a result of harvesting eggs that have been laid in the wild.
C = Captive Raised
          Captive raised animals can be wild caught animals or animals of unknown origin that are otherwise known to have been in captivity for some time. These animals are also sometimes referred to as "ltc" or "long term captives". There are differing opinions as to what length of time defines the term "ltc". For some individuals it is as little as 6 months while for others it must be at least 2 years. The abbreviation "CR" is also used to designate these animals.
R = Ranched or Farm Raised
          Ranched or farm raised animals have a rather broad definition. These can be animals that are born or hatched as a result of harvesting eggs or gravid females from the wild and then holding them until they give birth or lay their eggs. They can be animals that are born or hatched as result of harvesting wild caught adults, confining them in large outdoor areas, and allowing them to breed naturally. While similar practices do occur here in the U.S. it is interesting to note that U.S. breeders rarely if ever apply this definition to themselves.
W = Wild Caught
          Wild caught animals are animals that have been captured and removed from their natural environment. For the pet industry this also refers to invasive species that have been established in areas outside of their naturally occurring ranges.
     Please note: I do not quarantine or treat any animals prior to their sale. I do STRONGLY recommend that you quarantine and treat all animals, including captive born, according to their needs. For more information on this and related topics please go to my information section.
